DUNGENESS – Authorities are still investigating the discovery of human remains that washed up on a beach near Sequim.

About noon Friday, beachgoers near the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge reported finding a female human torso. Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies and US Fish and Wildlife rangers closed the area of the beach where the remains were found, about 100 yards southwest of where the trail meets the beach.

The remains were inspected by a coroner with the Clallam County Prosecutor’s Office then delivered to a local funeral home. An autopsy is pending. The sheriff’s office doesn’t suspect foul play at this time.

Once the body was collected, members of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team combed the beach for other remains, however none were found. Saturday, a Sheriff’s Department drone pilot used their drone to search several miles of the surrounding area. Again, no other remains were located.
