LOCAL SPORTS: Wolves get big fastpitch walk-off win

SEQUIM — It was a pack of howling Wolves that walked off their home field as the Sequim girls fastpitch team knocked off the 11th ranked North Mason Bulldogs 8-7 yesterday.

With the game tied 7-7 bottom of the 7th and two outs, leadoff hitter Hannah Bates got on with a single. Two wild pitches later, Bates got to 3rd base with Addie Smith at the plate. Smith then hit a blooper over the 2nd baseman. With three Bulldogs hard charging for the ball a Bulldog player had the ball in her glove but dropped it allowing Bates to score for the dramatic walk-off win. Hannah Bates was outstanding, willing her team to win going 4 of 5 with two RBIs and 2 runs scored. Christy Grubb had her usual great day at the plate, with three hits and two runs scored. Lili Fili had two hits two RBIs and a run scored. Mia Pozernick had a hit an RBI and a run scored. Pitcher Angel Wagner was solid. North Mason scored 4 of their runs in the 2 inning on 3 Wolf infield errors. The Wolves now 6-5 in league play and 10-5 overall have another big game at Kingston tomorrow.

The state’s #1 ranked Port Angeles Roughriders had no problem in Bainbridge blowing out the Spartans 13-1. The Roughriders will host a very good 14th ranked North Kitsap Viking team tomorrow.

In boys soccer, the Port Angeles Roughriders were shutout yesterday. Bremerton defeated the Riders 3-0.

Tonight, Kingston is at Sequim with the kickoff at 6:45. The Wolves are having a good season with a 9-4 league record.

In baseball action, Sequim loss at Mariner 5-1.

Port Angeles took a doubleheader over North Mason winning 6-0 and 13-2.

Sequim travels to North Kitsap today first pitch at 4:15 pm.

In girls tennis action Port Angeles travels to North Kitsap first serve at 4 pm

In golf action, the Port Angeles boys knocked off Bainbridge 174-186. Edun Bailey and Austin Worthington both shot a hot 42. For the girls, the Roughriders lost a heart breaker to the Spartans by 5 strokes 221 – 216. Claire Osterberg led the Roughriders shooting a 50 and Lauryn Chapman shot a 53. The Roughriders finish the regular season tomorrow at North Kitsap.
