CLALLAM BAY – There is good news for Olympic Peninsula travelers between Sappho and Neah Bay. State Route 112 is back open with completion of the massive cleanup of the November landslide at milepost 15.8.

WSDOT crews reopened the roadway at 6 p.m. Monday near Clallam Bay to two-way travel, but additional monitoring and seeding of the hillside will be necessary.

Crews completed paving on Wednesday, March 16, but the highway settled an additional six inches in the eastbound lane and workers had to remove the settled areas and rebuild it using only gravel for time being. The gravel roadway will remain in place while geologists monitor the hillside.

Final guardrail installation and slope seeding is planned for next week. Flaggers will alternate travelers during the work.
