PORT TOWNSEND — A Port Townsend woman is in custody today, suspected of attacking her husband with a hatchet Tuesday morning while he slept.
59-year-old Anna Young was expected to make her first appearance in court Wednesday. Her husband, whose name has not been released, told investigators that he was asleep when his wife began striking him in the head and face with a hatchet.
According to Sgt. Brett Anglin with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the victim said, during the attack, his wife was saying something about a dream she had.
“We’re still investigating the scene, but I’m using resources such as of the crime lab to help determine whether or not that rendition of the events is true or not. The suspect has not provided us with a complete story at this time.”
Sgt. Anglin says the victim tried to call 911 but was again hit with the hatchet. He then ran from the house and drove himself to the local hospital, where he was airlifted to Harborview due to the extent of his injuries. He was released from the hospital last night after undergoing corrective surgery to his head and face.
Young was booked at the county jail on charges of Assault in the 1st degree and interfering with the reporting of a 911 call.
She is being held on $100,000 bail.
