PORT ANGELES – Port Angeles firefighters quickly doused a fire Thursday morning at the Panorama Apartments on East 5th Street.
No one was hurt, as the residents of the apartment were not home at the time of the fire. Their cat was retrieved unharmed.
Captain Bryant Kroh reports the call came in just before 9:00am. They arrived to find light smoke coming from a 2nd story balcony.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire with a single hose line and ground ladder.
Fire and smoke damage to the apartment and belongings is estimated at $10,000.
The cause is reported as accidental in nature, believed to be caused by discarded ashes.
