PORT ANGELES – At Friday morning’s Covid briefing, Health Officer Dr. Allison Berry said most of the latest cases of the virus in Clallam County continue to be in children, and most of the local transmission is coming from visitors from outside our county.
38% of our population has received at least a first dose of vaccine, or just under 29,000 people.
Both vaccination events in Port Angeles this weekend are full, and so no more registrations are being accepted. You can still register for next week’s events in Sequim, which are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday.
Also next week, registration will open a day earlier on Tuesday for a vaccination event to be held Saturday, April 3.
Tuesday is also the day that we move into the B3 tier, which further expands eligibility.
So that is anyone 60 or over and anyone 16 or over (1-6) or over who has a chronic condition that puts them at high risk of covid-19. So that includes lung disease, heart disease, diabetes, immune suppression, obesity, pregnancy. Smoking actually puts you at risk of covid-19. All those folks, if you’re 16 or over, will be eligible to schedule starting on Tuesday.”
The other issue Dr. Berry touched on was the Governor’s recent announcement that schools may now switch to 3-foot spacing between students in classrooms, as opposed to the 6-foot spacing we are now using in Clallam County schools. She said that she has met with all school superintendents and they have all agreed to stick with 6 foot spacing for the remainder of the school year, and go to 3 foot spacing beginning in the fall.
