SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A powerful windstorm has rolled through the Pacific Northwest, killing one person and leaving a trail of damage.

The storm nearly blew a US Mail tractor-trailer off of Whidbey Island’s Deception Pass Bridge, caused a massive landslide across HWY 84 in Oregon and left more than 500,000 people in the two states without power.

Officials say the death happened in Spokane when a tree fell on a woman in her car and trapped her.

The Deception Pass Bridge is back open after closing for several hours because the semi was partially hanging off the edge of the bridge.

Trooper Heather Axtman said the driver of the truck was able to get out of the truck and is uninjured.

She said a tow truck couldn’t tip the truck upright for more than four hours due to high winds and “the possibility of it blowing over again.”
