Previous story:
PORT ANGELES – An 81-year-old Port Angeles woman survived being stabbed in the neck Sunday afternoon and police soon after arrested a suspect, 33-year-old Tyler Anderson.
Based on a call to police, Anderson is believed to have entered a home on the 1600 block of W. 11th Street in Port Angeles. A neighbor reported hearing shouting from the house and later seeing Anderson walk out. A second call to police reported a man fitting the same description followed a woman into her home on the 1800 block and only left when her husband pointed a gun and ordered him out.
Officer Geraldine Smith, following up on the first call, contacted the owner of the house and was asked by him to check on his elderly mother inside. Officer Smith found Catherine Carmichael lying on the floor with a stab wound in her neck and a kitchen knife nearby. Smith detected no pulse and no breathing and determined Carmichael had died, but about 10 minutes later heard the woman cough and found she had rolled over and was gasping for air.
Medics arrived soon after and Carmichael was airlifted to Harborview in Seattle.
Meanwhile, Tyler Anderson was spotted nearby and arrested. He was found to be in possession of what is believed to be Carmichael’s phone, covered in blood.
The Prosecutor’s Office will be filing charges Wednesday. Anderson is being held on $250,000 bail.
We have no update on Carmichael’s condition.
