PORT ANGELES – A section of State Route 112 east of Pysht will remain closed until further notice after heavy rainfall triggered roadway settlement and sloughing. The highway is closed to all travelers between milepost 31.4 and 38.9.
The continued closure follows an assessment by a Washington State Department of Transportation engineering geologist. WSDOT is in the process of identifying what work is needed to re-open the highway.
One section of highway has settled more than 18 inches across both lanes of traffic. Two other sections of highway have settlement below the roadway. All areas are within a quarter mile of each other.
The only detour is via US 101.
