SEATTLE (AP) — Judges in Washington state have assigned more people, who have been convicted of crimes or are awaiting trial, to electronic home monitoring to create more room in county jails during the pandemic.
Offenders are fitted with an electronic ankle bracelet under the monitoring program, and authorities receive an alert if someone breaks the conditions of their detention.
However, KING 5 News investigated and found that department employees do not see violation alerts outside their regular Monday through Friday hours.
The department responded to the report Tuesday, saying they have never monitored alerts of violations 24/7.
