BLYN, Wash. – A new cell tower, disguised as a fir tree, has just been fully outfitted and “switched on” by the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe in Blyn.

The 150-foot monofir tower itself was completed about a year ago on Tribal land off Chicken Coop Road, but a news release says that getting it fully functional was delayed by complications due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This month, Verizon Wireless completed their equipment installation on the tower to expand their coverage to the Blyn area.

Besides improving cell service in the area, which is a win for the new 7 Cedars Resort Hotel, the new tower will improve first responder communications for Clallam Fire District #3 and the Sheriff’s Department, both of which will have equipment placed on the tower.

The Tribe says plans are in the works to house additional cell phone carriers as well as local internet service providers on the tower in the future.
