KITSAP COUNTY – A range officer at the Kitsap Rifle and Revolver Club shot himself in the leg while attempting to secure his pistol on Wednesday.
Deputy Scott Wilson said the shooting at the club on appeared to be an accident and that he was not target shooting, which is prohibited because of a court injunction.
The man, 76, told deputies he had been performing office work and while preparing to leave he took the 9mm Glock from a holster before securing it in his truck. The man said his finger was on the trigger when it fired.
The bullet entered his right hip and exited his thigh.
He attempted to give himself first aid and started driving on Seabeck Highway for further treatment but stopped at a nearby Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue station. Firefighters there took him to a Medical Center in Bremerton.
