SEATTLE — A Coast Guard aircrew from Port Angeles hoisted three adults and one child to safety late Tuesday night from a cliff side near Cape Flattery.

The distress call went out at 10pm from the captain of a disabled 28-foot vessel saying they were drifting dangerously close the cliffs between Tatoosh Island and Cape Flattery.

A Port Angeles rescue crew launched a helicopter and a Coast Guard Station Neah Bay Lifeboat crew also headed to the area.

The boat crew arrived on scene first, but couldn’t get close enough to the vessel for a rescue. Eventually, all four passengers managed to climb onto a rock ledge before their boat capsized around 10:45 p.m.

When the aircrew arrived on scene, a rescue swimmer was deployed to hoist the boaters one by one into the helicopter.

All four reported no medical concerns.
