SEQUIM – A Port Angeles-area man died in an ATV accident south of Sequim.

About 3:30 Saturday afternoon, Clallam County sheriff’s deputies and Fire District Three units were called to the accident involving two men in a  side-by-side all-terrain vehicle. The accident occurred about two miles down a gravel road off of the 4000 block of Lost Mountain Road, south of Sequim.

The ATV riders were in a group, and those following said the ATV failed to negotiate a left hand turn at speeds of 25 to 30 miles per hour. The ATV rolled down a steep, 20 to 30-foot embankment. Both the driver and passenger were not wearing helmets and were ejected from the vehicle.

The 43-year-old passenger was injured, but conscious. The 26-year-old driver was found  unconscious and not breathing.

Witnesses administered CPR until medic crews arrived. The man was pronounced dead enroute to Olympic Medical Center.

The passenger was admitted to Olympic Medical Center, his status is currently unknown.

Clallam County Sheriff’s Sergeant John Keegan says the investigation continues and authorities are withholding the names of the victims, only that they are from the Port Angeles area.  He says alcohol was found at the scene, but they don’t believe it was a factor in the accident.
