VAUGHN, Wash. – A burnt-out home where the bodies of an elderly couple were found is now a crime scene, and their grandson has been arrested as a murder suspect.
Just after 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Key Peninsula Fire Department in south Puget Sound arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames. Witnesses reported hearing an explosion at the house.
As firefighters worked to douse the flames, they discovered the bodies of a woman and a man, both in their 70’s. Pierce County detectives said a search of the home uncovered evidence of arson and a murder.
The couple’s 26-year-old grandson, who had been staying with them, was gone along with one of the couple’s vehicles.
Early Monday morning, the missing vehicle was spotted outside a Lakewood apartment and officials set up a team to watch for the suspect.
The grandson was captured around 7:30am and booked into the Pierce County Jail for investigation of two counts of first degree murder.
No potential motive for the murders has been given.
