OLYMPIA – Gov. Inslee on Wednesday issued a long list of new businesses that can reopen in counties that make it into Phase 2 of his recovery plan.

Personal services and professional services have now been added. Personal services would include businesses such as cosmetologists, barbers, nail salons and tattoo artists.

Professional services are described as office-based occupations that typically serve a client base. Those would include accountants, architects and engineers, attorneys, insurance agents, tax preparers, and more.

Business Advisor Kevin Hoult and his wife Angel own a nail salon in Port Angeles. Hoult says, in their case, the new requirements for opening up include not only a constant cleaning regimen throughout the day, but also the use of disposable aprons or smocks for each customer and a fresh one for the employee for each appointment as well. He says these will all add up to extra operational costs.

“A lot of business owners are going to take a look at the requirements and contemplate the additional costs of providing all of these disposable goods, the additional need to access our early disinfectant materials. Some of those things are going to be in short supply. So there’s going to be some challenges in making all of this work in a timely manner.”

Although Clallam County has not yet gotten the go-ahead to move into Phase 2, best guess among county officials seems to be no sooner than June 1.
