TACOMA – A suspected DUI driver is in jail after leading police on a high-speed chase through downtown Tacoma in a stolen SUV while towing a boat.

Tacoma police arrested a 36-year-old man after the incident ended in a crash.

It all started Thursday afternoon when a caller reported seeing a stolen Range Rover at the Point Defiance boat launch.

During a 12-mile police pursuit the driver hit two occupied vehicles and nearly ran over at least one pedestrian.

The SUV eventually careened into a ditch and the driver ran off, but was captured by Tacoma police officers.

The man was booked on suspicion of DUI, possession of stolen property, first-degree assault, hit and run, and felony eluding. Police say he also had a felony domestic violence warrant.

There were no serious injuries reported in the high-speed chase.
