school-closure

PORT ANGELES – Contrary to Gov. Inslee’s statewide order, Port Angeles School District officials decided Sunday night to close all schools Monday morning instead of Tuesday.

Communications Director Jennifer Sperline sent out a robocall at 9:30 Sunday night to alert parents.

A statement sent out Monday morning reads “…we apologize for the late notice last night regarding closing school today. Several circumstances changed the decision. Mainly, it was learning of Governor Inslee’s intent to impose additional restrictions across our state. We are working on establishing days/times for students to pick-up personal belongings.”

As per the the Governor’s order, the closure will remain in effect through April 24th.

School District Administration Offices and school offices will remain open until further notice.

Starting tomorrow, schools will be providing free meals to students. Sack lunch and breakfasts will be available to kids free of charge. The child must be present to receive the meals. Meals will be served daily from 11:30am to 12:15pm on a drive-through basis at each individual school and Deer Park Cinema in the front parking lot, and at the gravel pit at the corner of Place and Ranger Roads.

If you are unable to pick up meals at any of these locations, please reach out to the district office at 457-8575 for additional support.

As for childcare, YMCA Licensed childcare is available at Dry Creek Elementary School from 8am to 6pm starting Tuesday. Full-day childcare fees will apply.  Call 452-9244 for more information.

Boys & Girls Club will have childcare services for children of health care workers and City and County workers, and SPARKS is accepting children of first responders and medical workers.
