The first-ever Sequim Sunshine Festival kicked off at noon today (Friday), designed to bring relief from the winter blues with activities that focus on light, fun, art, physical activity, and positive energy for all ages.
Director of Communications Barb Hanna told us a little bit about what to expect on day one.
“The first thing that’s happening is our 3D artist will be setting up at Centennial Place on the corner of Sequim and Washington, and she will be starting to work on our custom 3D design. And then the next real activity is at 4:45 when we’re going to have a ribbon cutting with the Chamber Ambassadors here at the Civic Center lobby, and then we have Ross Brown giving an Art Talk on the Art Walk at 5. His interactive light experience at Pioneer Park opens at 6:00. And then we’ll be showing “Look To the Sky”, a very inspirational movie by Brett Culp, again here at the Civic Center at seven o’clock.”
Saturday features the Rolling Sunshine Bicycle Ride, the Sun Fun Color Run, there’ll be music all over town, the catered Beach Party kicks off at 6:00, and at 6:45 it’s the Illuminated Drone Show at Carrie Blake Park.
As for the weather, the forecast calls for a mix of sunshine and scattered showers.
“We really tried to develop a combination of events that are indoor and outdoor. You know, this is the Northwest, we just get out and put on a raincoat, go out do what we gotta do.”
