Site of a recent murder burns nearly to the ground

FEDERAL WAY – Fire investigators are working to understand what triggered a fire Monday that completely destroyed a Federal Way house that was the site of a fatal shooting earlier this month.

It’s the same house where prosecutors say a woman was murdered in a double shooting and her 85-year-old roommate was charged in her death.

A South King Fire spokesman said “We don’t usually show up to a house that is 100% involved with flames on every door and window on all floors.”

And it’s not often that the house on fire is linked to a major crime scene just two weeks old.

The Federal Way Police Department wants to know if there’s a correlation and are waiting on fire investigators to determine the fire’s cause, but there’s so much fire damage much of the structure is deemed unsafe and not stable.

A commander with the police department says there is no indication there is a correlation at this time, but they’re waiting on the investigative findings to confirm whether that’s the case. Firefighters believe the home was vacant at the time of the fire.
