PORT ANGELES – It was about 9:40 pm Sunday when a car crashed into the Washington State Patrol office on Old Olympic Highway while a trooper was inside, and then the driver sped away.

The collision caused extensive damage to the building’s brick and masonry siding, but fortunately no one was hurt.

15 minutes later, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 1700 block of S. Bagley Creek Road to a report of a vehicle that had driven through a fence and across a yard.

Upon arrival, responding law enforcement located the suspect vehicle, a Toyota Highlander, and driver.  That driver was identified as 48-year-old Todd Alstrup of Sequim. Alstrup was arrested for suspicion of DUI.

Deputies investigating both scenes identified physical evidence linking Alstrup’s vehicle to the damaged State Patrol building.

Alstrup was booked into the Clallam County Jail for DUI and Hit and Run.
