PORT ANGELES – A Port Angeles School District student has been detained after allegedly making online threats against district facilities. Police say a Stevens Middle School student was detained before school and no other students were involved and there is no immediate threat. Officer Dan Morse:
“There was a post that included a picture what appeared to be multiple firearms and included text in it, which referenced the school. He is a Stevens Middle School student, however at this time we’re not releasing anything as far as his age or which grade he’s in.”
District spokesperson Jennifer Sperline says schools are open and operating as scheduled.
We asked Officer Morse whether there would be any additional police presence in school today.
“There was initially during the beginning part of the investigation while we were trying to find out if there was anybody else involved. But once we determined that there was nobody else involved, those officers have been released from those details. There currently isn’t an increased presence.”
Police say at about 4:30 this morning, they received a report from the FBI that a social media platform had contacted them regarding a possible threat to area schools, no specific school was mentioned. The post displayed what appeared to be multiple firearms and included text which referenced school.
A search warrant was executed on his residence. No real firearms or devices were located, however multiple realistic looking Airsoft style firearm replicas were located.
Again, all schools are open as scheduled and parent-teacher conferences will go on as scheduled today.
