PORT ANGELES – Demolition of buildings in downtown Port Angeles to make way for a new hotel has gone even faster.

Officials with the Elwha Tribe’s new hotel say crews were able to take down the former garage in just a day yesterday. It has been thought to take about a week.

Hotel general manager Robert Utz says that means they’ll probably start tearing down the former Downtown Hotel and Cornerhouse Restaurant building this afternoon.

Once those buildings are down, Utz says it’ll take about two months to clean up some environmental issues on the site before actual construction of the new 100-room hotel begins.
