sluicing-after

PORT ANGELES – On Wednesday morning, artist Cory Ench put the last dabs of acrylic sealant to finish up the largest of a three-mural restoration project in Port Angeles that began in April.

Like Ench’s historic murals “Kalakala” and “Ennis Creek”, “Sluicing the Hogback”, originally designed by the late Hank Krueger and painted with assistance from the late Tim Quinn, has now been restored to its original vibrancy and protected with a clear, protective coat.

But while the repair work is now complete, there is one last step to go; new signs for the three murals.

The new signs will have better explanations of what the murals depict than the existing ones. They will also incorporate the Klallam language and include prominent thank-you’s to Nor’Wester Rotary Club’s financial donors and other partners who made the restoration project possible.

Project organizer John Brewer says when the signs are ready to go, the Nor’Wester Rotary Club will host a re-dedication ceremony for the murals.
