PORT ANGELES – A wildfire is burning in Olympic National Park.
The fire is in wilderness area on Mount Dana about 21 miles south of Port Angeles.
It was first reported Saturday, right after a series of lightning strikes moved through the area.
Park officials are calling it a small fire. They flew over it this weekend, and found it smoldering and creeping in subalpine fir with pockets of heavy forest debris at an elevation of 4,400 feet on the western flank of the mountain.
They say smoke from the fire may be visible in the coming week from Hurricane Ridge and Obstruction Point Road depending on weather conditions.
For now, officials plan to monitor the fire and there are no closures in the park as a result of the fire.
