
PORT ANGELES – A man was rescued from the Elwha River after he apparently tried to cross it with a bicycle.
Rescue crews assembled a swift-water rescue yesterday afternoon after calls came in the unidentified man was swept away by the river near Madison Falls. A preliminary search didn’t locate the man.
A LifeFlight helicopter was called in to help get an aerial view of the river.
Clallam County Fire District Three from Sequim arrived to assist with a swift-water rescue team
After about an hour, the victim was spotted standing on a log jam in a center island portion of the river.
The swift-water rescue team in dry suits, helmets, and life jackets deployed a rope system to cross the river and contact the victim. They were able to walk the victim to a location where a raft could be used to safely transport him across the river. The victim was eventually transported to Olympic Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
