MASON COUNTY, Wash. – The body of the Joint Base Lewis McChord soldier who disappeared April 7 while on a hike near the High Steel Bridge, was recovered, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
Officials said a team with the Sheriff’s Office was able to find the man’s body after water levels dropped in the Skokomish River.
It was believed the soldier had lost his footing on a nearly vertical hillside, slid while grasping for tree branches and fell into the river.
The Sheriff’s Office tweeted he will be going home. They have not released his name.
