PORT ANGELES – Unemployment dropped nearly one full percent last month in Clallam County.
According to the state’s Employment Security Department, the overall unemployment rate locally was at 6.2 percent in May. That’s down from 7.1 percent in April. It is still about half a percent higher than May of last year.
The number of people without a job or have given up looking for a job, dropped by about 150 people between April and May. The number of employed rose by almost 350 people in county in May compared to April.
Jefferson County’s unemployment rate dropped to 5.6 percent.
The statewide unemployment rate is at 4.2 percent.
