SEKIU – Clallam County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a body found floating in the Strait of Juan de Fuca along Highway 112 on Monday is presumed, but not confirmed, to be that of a missing Olympia man who disappeared while fishing out of Sekiu last week.

Charles Swanson, 70, was the subject of a 3-day search by both the United States and Canadian Coast Guards after he and his dog were reported overdue on Friday. His 18-foot boat was last seen midday on June 13, anchored in the Strait of Juan de Fuca in an area commonly known as “the caves”. Ocean conditions were reported to have been very rough at the time. Searchers were unable to find any sign of the missing fisherman or his boat, and the search was suspended on Sunday.

On Monday afternoon, deputies were dispatched to the report of a body along the rocky shore near mile post 4 on SR 112, where they found the body.

The Clallam County Coroner’s office is working with the King County Medical Examiner’s Office in an effort to determine the cause of death and confirm the identity of the deceased.

Mr. Swanson was believed to have had “Larry”, his one-and-a-half year-old Golden Retriever, on his boat with him. Larry has not been found.
