PORT ANGELES – A Clallam County sheriff’s deputy has been given one last chance to keep his job after investigations into misconduct.
Deputy Michael Leiter signed a “Last Chance Agreement” last week, with the understanding he’d be fired if another similar action occurs.
He had been on leave since March 14th when the sheriff’s office launched an administrative investigation after complaints Leiter sent inappropriate cell phone text messages.
A woman sent the email complaint to the county’s HR director. She said she had received an inappropriate message from Leiter after a civil standby he conducted at her residence in March of 2016. The complainant was a victim of domestic violence at the time. She claimed she came forward with the complaint after seeing media coverage of Leiter’s suspension for inappropriate text messages in another case earlier this year. She also said she didn’t wish to press charges.
Leiter has since returned to his duties as a deputy after the investigations concluded and he signed the “last chance” agreement.
