Port Angeles – This month, local law enforcement will be stepping up emphasis on seatbelt use.

The “Click It or Ticket” emphasis will mean more traffic patrol with marked units. Officials say they want people to see more cops out and pulling people over for seatbelt infractions.

Law enforcement officials say 19% of the 52 traffic fatalities in Clallam and Jefferson counties between 2013-2017 involved unrestrained vehicle occupants.

The local emphasis coincides with similar stepped-up patrols across the state beginning May 20th.
