WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Library in Blyn has won the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries from The National Institute of Museum and Library Services, it was announced Tuesday.
Only five libraries and five museums in the country received the 2019 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. We asked Tribal Librarian Bonnie Roos what sets her library apart from the others.

The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Library specializes in materials by and about Native American Indians with a special focus on the Tribes of the Northwest Coast.
The award will be presented at an event in Washington, D.C. on June 12. Sequim community member and Tribal Elder Celeste Dybeck will travel to Washington with Bonnie Roos and Library Founder Liz Mueller to accept the National Medal.
The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation’s libraries and museums. The National Medal Award does come with a monetary award as well, and Roos knows exactly what they’re going to do with it.
