BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a man accused of fatally shooting a man and leaving his body in an Auburn vacant lot last month was arrested Saturday while trying to cross the Canadian border.

Abbas Salah Zghair of Kent was arrested on suspicion of murder and criminal impersonation, according to Whatcom County Jail records.

On March 24, Auburn police were called to the former drive-in movie theater after a body was found, according to Commander Steve Stocker. He says a 31-year-old Kent man had died of an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim’s identity and other information aren’t being released because it’s still an active homicide investigation.

Stocker says video from nearby businesses showed a license plate which led to Zghair.

Sumas police say officers were called to the border crossing after Zghair presented an ID that was not his.
