WAPATO, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a 14-year-old boy died after he was shot in a park south of Yakima in Wapato.
The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called by Wapato police to respond to a report of a person injured in a shooting Monday afternoon.
The sheriff’s office says officers and deputies found the teen in the park and performed CPR until an ambulance arrived. The boy was taken to a Yakima hospital and later pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said.
His name hasn’t been released.
Preliminary evidence indicates the shooting was gang-related, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities do not have a suspect in custody but are looking for several persons of interest to interview. The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
