PORT ANGELES – Heavy snow continued to fall overnight on the north Olympic Peninsula.

The area had over 18 inches of snow accumulation in some areas. The deep snow prompted the post office to cancel delivery on Saturday.

The National Weather Service forecasts snow to taper off by Saturday afternoon. Winds gusting to 40 miles an hour may develop by Saturday evening. Frigid temperatures will remain locked in the area for the next week, with highs below freezing and lows at night in the low 20s.

Another two inches of snow could fall locally from a storm moving in Sunday night.
