
PORT ANGELES – The Port Angeles City Council passed a new ordinance Tuesday that will give a substantial tax break to developers who build multi-family housing of four or more units. Builders who create market-rate housing will get an eight-year property tax exemption, and those who build affordable housing will get a 12-year exemption.

The new construction tax breaks will be eligible anywhere that existing zoning currently permits, and West says there are clauses written into the ordinance that create a process for evaluating its effectiveness.

We asked councilmember Lindsey Schromen-Wawrin if he knew of any such housing projects that might have been on hold until this new ordinance was passed, or what he thought the participation might be, now that it has been.
