PORT ANGELES – Two local dog breeders will be flying to New York this week to compete in the most prestigious dog show in the country, the Westminster Dog Show.
Mariko Saum with her Japanese Chin named Diznee, and Susan Parr with her Bernese Mountain Dog named Vegas, are members of the Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club. Both women, along with their handlers, have competed successfully in competitions throughout the country against the world’s best, earning them the invitation to next week’s Westminster.
But Parr says her dog Vegas still has a lot of work to do before making the final cut and getting on next Monday and Tuesday’s televised broadcast.
Mariko Saum’s dog Diznee will be competing in the Toy Breed category. She gives a sense of what it takes to make it to this level.
The 143RD Westminster Kennel Dog Show will be televised next Monday and Tuesday on Fox Sports 1.
