Grants for help with public records pour into county

CLALLAM COUNTY – Access to public records is a right afforded to all of us as citizens. But how many of us, outside of those working for public agencies, give much thought to how much work can go into answering those requests? It can be a time-consuming and sometimes burdensome enterprise.

The State of Washington has just awarded a second round of grants to such agencies to help lighten the work load. Locally, Clallam Transit and the Sequim School District were awarded what they call “Organize the File Room” grants, to the tune of $19,500 and $15,000 respectively.

Kathy Wright from the School District says it’s going to make a big difference.

Another type of grant was awarded to the City of Sequim and to Clallam County. Those funds are to be used for technology tools to help them comply with requests, with Sequim receiving $13,000, and the County getting $30,000. Here’s the County’s Elizabeth Stanley:
