SEQUIM – The disappointing cancellation of this year’s Kids Fishing Day at Carrie Blake Park has officially been rectified.

The reclamation pond was stocked this week with hundreds of rainbow trout, and kids 14-and-under are invited to fish any time the park is open, with certain restrictions. It’s a joint venture between the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, the City of Sequim, and the North Olympic chapter of Puget Sound Anglers. Here’s the club’s President, Bob Keck.

There will still be a Kid’s Fishing Day in 2019, but it will be sometime in April instead of the previous summer events. This year’s event was cancelled because the hot weather made the water too warm, causing many of the fish to die.

The rules for fishing are posted at the pond. Kids 14 years and under do not need a fishing license. There is a two-fish limit for each child, and there is no catch-and-release permitted. Keep the fish you catch.

The only time restrictions are the hours reserved by the Sequim Remote Control Aquanauts sailing club, Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10:00AM-2:00PM. They ask that you don’t fish during these times, unless no boats are present.
