PORT ANGELES – It was announced Monday that construction on the William Shore Memorial Pool renovation project will begin by April 1 next Spring, with the goal of reopening in early December. That’s a much shorter construction time than originally thought, but the pool will not remain open during construction as was hoped.

The Pool District has planned on conducting the remodel in phases, keeping the central pool atrium open to the public while the new the front office and dressing rooms were under construction. Executive Director Steve Burke says the contractor came back with the numbers for doing the job in phases as opposed to building it all at once, and the difference in cost was $750,000.

The renovation and expansion design will include a new entrance and locker rooms, a new warm water exercise pool that can hold up to 40 people, a new activity pool with a beach entry, lazy river, and a vortex ring, and a spa for up to 10 people.
