Climber falls on Mount Shuksan

BELLINGHAM – Authorities say a man was seriously injured when he fell during a climb of Mount Shuksan over the weekend.

The Bellingham Mountain Rescue Council’s Chris Ellis, who helped lead the rescue, says the man and his friends had reached the peak of Mount Shuksan Friday. They were on their way down the mountain using the Fisher Chimneys route when the man fell around 1 or 2 a.m. Saturday.

A crew from Naval Air Station Whidbey found the man more than halfway down the 9,131-foot mountain in the North Cascades east of Bellingham. They airlifted him to the hospital.
