PORT ANGELES – Installation of the safety fencing on the 8TH Street bridges will begin on Monday July 16 and, if all goes as planned, could be wrapped up in about two months.

One lane on each of the bridges will be closed 24/7 during construction to give workers room to operate, starting with the east-bound lanes, with temporary fencing running down the center of the bridges. That will leave one travel lane in each direction for motorists and one sidewalk for pedestrians. The speed limit will be reduced to 20 mph through the work zone, so drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Project Manager Jonathan Boehme told us there’s been a change of plans in the installation of the fencing that will make it safer for the workers:

The fencing is being installed by Interwest Construction of Carlsborg.
