Former employee to challenge Clallam Sheriff

PORT ANGELES – Retired Clallam County sheriff detective Jim McLaughlin announced last week he’s running for Sheriff. McLaughlin, who retired two years ago, says he’s entering the race to address what he sees as a growing culture of complacency in some parts of the Department:

Along with his 13 years with the Sheriff’s Office, McLaughlin spent 4 years in the Marines and 19 years with the Coast Guard.

Benedict also was elected after serving as a deputy in the department and promoted to sergeant. The incumbent is serving his third term as the elected sheriff.
