CLALLAM COUNTY – The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous reports from locals who have received calls stating that they skipped Jury Duty and now have warrants out for their arrest.

The caller says they now owe fines, which they can pay using “vouchers”, and will later be reimbursed.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office wants us all to know they do not make calls soliciting money from citizens. The Sheriff’s Office also does not make calls threatening to come to your house and arrest you if you do not pay a fine.

The caller ID is showing the number of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, but don’t be fooled. These types of phone scams are very common across the country and many tactics are used by the callers in an effort to scare the resident into giving them either personal information or sending money.

We’re all advised not to rely on caller ID to verify who’s calling, and the Sheriff’s Office offers these tips for handling such calls:

If you get a strange call from the government, hang up. If you want to check it out, visit the official (.gov) website for contact information.

Government employees won’t call out of the blue to demand money or account information. Don’t give out — or confirm — your personal or financial information to someone who calls.

Don’t wire money or send money using a reloadable card. In fact, never pay someone who calls out of the blue.

If you’re feeling pressured to act immediately, hang up. That’s a sure sign of a scam.
