PORT ANGELES — In high school tennis action yesterday, defending state champion North Kitsap Vikings swept the Port Angeles Roughriders 7-0. Despite the score, the Roughriders showed competitive moments, especially in doubles matches.

In singles, Tate Alton fell 6-4, 6-0; Sky Gelder lost 6-1, 6-1; and Garrett Buerer was defeated 6-0, 6-1. The doubles teams fared slightly better, with Luke Flodstrom and Nathan Basden narrowly losing 6-7, 4-6, while Austin Worthington and Keatyn Hoch won the first set 6-2 before losing the next two, 3-6, 5-7. Carter Gunderson and Grant Butterworth lost 6-0, 6-2, and Zach Neff and Carston Siebel dropped a close match, 3-6, 5-7.

In volleyball, Olympic swept Port Angeles 3-0, and Bainbridge defeated Sequim 3-0.

In soccer, Roughrider junior Teanna Clark, a three-sport star, scored a hat trick to lead the Port Angeles girls to a 3-0 win over Olympic. All three goals came in the second half, with assists from Sophia Ritchie, Kendryn DeScala, and Lilly Anne Lancaster. The Roughriders face North Kitsap on Tuesday in a key league matchup.

Meanwhile, Sequim’s defense held strong, but the Wolves lost to Bainbridge 2-0. Sequim will play at Olympic on Tuesday.

In football action, the Sequim Wolves (1-1) travel to Grays Harbor tonight to face PA Roughrider coach Dustin Clark’s alma mater the 2-0 Elma Eagles.

Meanwhile, Port Angeles hosts the North Mason Bulldogs (2-0) at Civic Stadium, looking for their first win of the season. Senior Blake Sohlberg will start at quarterback. The game will be broadcast on KONP Newsradio 1450 AM, with Oly Archibald, Greg Thomas, and Joe Gladfelter on the call.

In a major Olympic League game last night, Olympic beat North Kitsap 27-12, marking the Trojans’ first win over the Vikings since 2015. North Kitsap, struggling with injuries at quarterback, is now 0-3, averaging just 11 points per game.
