PORT ANGELES — A motorhome fire erupted on the car deck of the M.V. Coho Ferry at about 4:30 pm Thursday, about 10 minutes from docking.
The Port Angeles Fire Department crews found the motorhome fully engulfed in flames, with onboard firefighting teams and the ferry’s sprinkler system working to contain the fire. Multiple units from the city and surrounding agencies responded to the fire. Thirty two firefighters and four ambulance personnel responded.
The fire was mostly confined to the motorhome, causing minimal damage to nearby vehicles and the ferry. Black Ball Ferry Line stated that operations should see minimal disruption. In a statement online, Black Ball said a night sailing was canceled Thursday, but operations would return to normal on Friday.
Officials said recent joint training between PAFD and ferry staff proved crucial in managing the incident.
Twelve people were evaluated for smoke inhalation, with one adult female hospitalized.
