PORT ANGELES — Roughrider baseball fans can pack their bags; they are heading to the Class 2A State Tournament for the second year in a row. The Roughriders knocked off a very talented Fife Trojan team, 5-3.

The Roughriders will now play in a District semifinal game Saturday at 11:00 at Central Kitsap High School against the state’s number one ranked Enumclaw Hornets. The Hornets beat Olympic last night.

Roughrider starting pitcher Colton Romero was outstanding. Romero pitched 5 innings, giving up just 3 hits and 1 run with 6 strikeouts. Sophomore Brayden Martin again came in and closed the door to earn the save.

The Roughriders struck first when Junior Catcher Luke Flodstrom singled in Ezra Townsend. With the score tied 1-1, the Roughriders broke the game open with 4 runs in the 5th inning. Josiah Gooding led off with a single, Luke Flodstrom was hit by a pitch, then Nathan Basden came up with a clutch single, and Alex Angevine sent a screamer to the left-field fence for a double. Gooding, Flodstrom, Rylan Politika, and Angevine all scored in the inning.

If the Roughriders beat Enumclaw Saturday, they will play in the District Championship game at 4:00 at Central Kitsap High School. If the Roughriders lose, they will play for 3rd and 4th at 4:00 at the County Fairgrounds.

The Sequim Wolves (11-11) beat Tyee 8-1. The Wolves will play at Fife today at 4:00. You can hear that game right here on KONP Newsradio with the pregame show starting at 3:45.
