The City of Sequim has a new Deputy Chief.  Sergeant John Southard was sworn in yesterday, May 1st as the cities new Deputy Chief.

Southard was hired as a City of Sequim Police Officer in 2007.  He was promoted to Sergeant in 2017.  Southard served for over 20 years in the United States Army National Guard.  Before working for the City he was a Dive Officer and Research Scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.  He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Washington University in Environmental Policy and Assessment.

“We are fortunate to have someone with John’s background with the U.S. Army National Guard and as a research scientist in addition to his time with the Sequim Police Department.  These experiences have provided him with expertise in tactics, training, and emergency management that have been invaluable to the department and have prepared him for his role as Deputy Chief,” said Police Chief Mike Hill.
