BAINBRIDGE — The 9th-ranked Port Angeles Roughrider baseball team did it again, upsetting the 6th-ranked Bainbridge team 3-1 on their own field. Pitchers Brian Guttormsen, Hunter Stratford, and Brayden Martin were outstanding, holding the vaunted Spartan lineup to just one run.

The Roughriders are now 10-2 and tied with North Kitsap for first place in the Olympic League. They have two league games left against Kingston, who are 6-6 in league play. The Vikings, on the other hand, have two games remaining against winless Bremerton.

District play begins on May 7th, and if the Roughriders take care of business against Kingston, they should host their winners bracket district game. The semifinals and championship game are scheduled for May 11th at Central Kitsap.

In the Dick Streeter Golf Invitational, the Port Angeles Roughriders boys placed 4th, with Austin Worthington and Nate Anderson shooting a 72. Reid Schmidt and Cale Wentz shot a 73 and placed 5th. For Sequim, Adrian Aragon and Cody Dunscomb shot a 77, placing 8th, while Lars Wiker and Joey King shot an 84, placing ninth.

In the girls’ competition, Port Angeles placed 4th, with Lauryn Chapman and Malena Marquez shooting an 83. Clair Osterberg and Mia Neff shot an 85, placing 5th. For Sequim, Ava Johnson and Emily Post placed 7th, shooting 87, while Taryn Johnson and Raimey Brewer shot an 88 for 8th place.

In girls’ fastpitch action, Port Angeles beat North Mason 20-0. Lindsay Smith had a grand slam home run with 4 RBIs, while Ava Anne Sheahan also hit a grand slam home run with 4 RBIs. Natalie Robinson hit a 2-run home run, also contributing 4 RBIs. Heidi Leitz, Lynzee Reid, and Sophia Ritchie combined for the win, giving up just 2 hits and tallying 8 strikeouts. Meanwhile, Bremerton beat Sequim 11-7.

In soccer Port Angeles beat Olympic 2-1. Matthew Miller scored both goals for the Roughriders.

The Klahhane Gymnastics team sent four members to the Regional Championships in Boise, Idaho. Carly Mae Riggs took first place in the All-Around and placed 3rd in the beam and floor events. Elyse Brown placed 2nd in the floor event, Paytynn Lindley took 5th in the beam event, and Harper Hilliker placed 13th in the beam event.
