POULSBO — If you’re a Track & Field fan, Poulsbo was the place to be for the Lil Norway track meet considering some of the 20 teams that showed up, such as Lincoln, Mt Tahoma, Lynden, Bellarmine Prep, and Stadium.

The Sequim Wolves and Port Angeles Roughriders had great meets there. In the girls’ events, the Wolves finished 7th and the Roughriders 11th. For the Wolves, Ivy Barrett finished 2nd in the 400-meter run. Barrett, a member of the 4×200 relay team with Kaitlyn Bloomenrader, Dawn Holstedt, and Bailey Stein, finished 4th. Bloomenrader also finished 3rd in the 800-meter run. Dawn Holstedt also placed 4th in the 1600m run.

Wolves’ heralded freshman, Clare Turella, placed 4th in the high jump and the long jump. Ahrya Klinger finished 4th in the always exciting Pole Vault. For the Roughriders, Paige Mason placed 3rd in the long jump. Faerin Tait placed 5th in the 300m hurdles. Ryana Moss of Neah Bay placed 6th in the 1600m run.

In the boys’ events, the Roughriders placed an impressive 3rd place as a team, and Sequim finished 13th. For the Roughriders, Parker Nickerson won the 300m run and placed 4th in the Triple Jump. Hunter Flores placed 3rd in the Javelin. Trevor Martin placed 4th in the discus and 2nd in the Hammer throw. Dallas Dunning placed 3rd in the high jump. Donovan Heins placed 4th in the high jump and 2nd in the long jump. For the Wolves, Sean Southard placed 4th in the 200m run and 4th in the Javelin.

In soccer action, North Mason beat Port Angeles 5-3 with Mathew Miller getting the 3-goal hat trick for the Roughriders.

In fast-pitch action, the Sequim Wolves knocked off Bremerton 12-4 but then lost to Klahowya 19-16 on Saturday.

In the Bremerton win, Hannah Giddings got on base 3 times with a double. Mia Kurner hit 2 doubles and had one RBI. Taylee Rome got on base 3 times with a double. Kylie Winter had 2 singles and an RBI. Kylie Doig had a single. Pitcher Kylie Whitehead earned the win, going 5 innings with 4 strikeouts.

Sequim Shortstop Taylee Rome is having an MVP season hitting 621 with 11 singles, 3 doubles, 4 home runs and 15 RBIs

In the Klahowya game, Mia Kurner went 4 of 6 with 3 singles and 3 RBIs. Taylee Rome went 4 of 5 with 3 singles and her 4th home run of the season. Kylie Doig had a double and an RBI. Mikki Green had 2 singles. Naveah Owen’s went 2 of 4 with a double and an RBI. Grace Gardner had a double and 2 RBIs.

There is tennis action today with Sequim at Olympic and Kingston at Port Angeles, both matches start at 4:00.

In baseball action today, Port Angeles has an important 2-game series with Class 3A Bainbridge, 9-1, 12-4, which is ranked 6th in the state. The Roughriders, 8-2, 12-4, are a game behind 9-2 North Kitsap and are ranked 11th. The Roughriders will face Spartan pitcher Jack Grant, one of the top pitchers in the state and the Spartans QB on their football team.

The Roughriders will see one of the best pitchers in the state in Jack Grant who is also the Spartans QB

The Roughriders will counter with Seniors Colton Romero and Brian Guttormson who pitched a 7-inning gem Thursday night against North Mason.

 

Sophomore Brayden Martin has also thrown a lot of pitches in the last 5 games and has looked solid. The game will be played at Volunteer field today with the first pitch at 4:15.
